EQUIPMENT
Electric windows, Blaupunkt CD player with 10 disc changer, Fire extinguisher, Rear seat belts, Matching hardtop, Front fog lights, Electric passenger mirror, Wind deflector, Spare alloy wheel, Central locking.
EXTERIOR
This 280 SL is finished in a stunning white colour which really compliments the chrome work and light interior. The body is in superb condition having been fully rust proofed in the past and all of the wheel arches are corrosion free as are the wings. The panels of the car all line up correctly and have no dents to be found, on close inspection there are a few light stone chips to front of the car and just above the rear off side light. All of the cars extensive chrome work looks fantastic with no pitting or dents. Smaller details such as the badge, wipers and door handles are also in fine fettle. As with the body work the hardtop is in exceptional condition with a deep shine to the paintwork and unmarked chrome trim. The car comes with a black soft top fitted with white stitching that shows no signs of damage.
INTERIOR
The interior of this 280 remains in fantastic condition, all of the wood trim still fits as it should and shows no sign of sun damage or cracking. The half cream leather seats are unworn with no sagging or tears to the bolsters or the checked cloth seat base. The rear seats are looking in particularly fine condition with minimal wear. All the heating controls work as do all the dash lights and steering column controls. Other details such as the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake are showing remarkably little wear for a car of this age. As with the exterior of the hardtop the underside remains very clean and mark free.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Having covered only 86k miles and been meticulously maintained by a Mercedes-Benz club owner for the past 23 years it's no wonder the engine fires into life at the turn of the key and idles smoothly. On the road the 2.8 inline 6 engine provides effortless performance for cruising, pulling through the gears with ease. All of the mechanics of the car still feel solid, tight and responsive.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This SL is still wearing its original 14" Mercedes alloy wheels which are in good condition but on close inspection there are a few minor scuff marks to be found. They are wearing matching Dunlop sport 200 tyres, there are no cracks to the rubber and they all still have plenty of tread left on them. The car was treated to a new set of brake discs and pads a few years ago, they remain in good condition with minimal wear and good functionality pulling the car to a stop in a straight line
HISTORY FILE
This 280 SL was first registered on the 1st of January 1984. There is a detailed account of the service history from new and a list of all parts bought and fitted to the car as well as many invoices kept. Also present in the history file are many MOT certificates and old tax discs including an original bill of sale from Romans Farnham when the current owner purchased the car in 1989.
