An exquisite example of this model of car with a full service history and plenty of quality work carried out to maintain its superb condition. 5 previous owners and upon inspection of the accompanying documents you can actually trace this cars history from factory to myself, with all owners demonstrating through correspondence that they looked after it well. Engine overhaul in 2000 (85,000 on clock when overhauled), braking system overhaul 2001, new diff fitted by previous owner 2006, full professional bodywork overhaul and respray in 2007 followed by a new deluxe mohair hood made to measure by the don hood trimming company in Birmingham. The previous owner had a sports twin exhaust and a high performance cam shaft fitted in 2003/4 which I had removed (camshaft) and replaced with a standard cam so it runs and drives very very smoothly indeed. Mechanically this car is sound and apart from a sticky tachograph (rev counter - which from inspecting the previous service history I have found was picked up on an AA veh inspection in 1997 - this fault is overcome with a flick on the dial face, to be honest I have never wanted to repair this fault as it adds to the character of the car) Early this year I had the old interior renewed by a interior trimming company including new foam for both seats, new covers for seats, new door cards, new carpet throughout (excluding boot) and the centre panels cleaned. The interior of the car is now in as clean and tidy condition as the exterior and really has to be seen to be believed. Rust and usual concerns for potential buyers - Door panel gaps are fine with absolutely no evidence of sag, both doors operate perfectly with no rub or wear marks. gaps are even all round. Sills and underside of car - The sills have been kept an eye on and repaired periodically, most recently have been sealed and painted and are in very good condition considering these cars reputation for rust. The underside is also in good condition however it has required minor welding to some points over the 5 or so years I have owned the car. Chassis - Excellent condition, photos of the engine bay show the chassis at the front of the vehicle and it really is in fine condition. Wheel arches - again excellent with no signs of impending rust apart from one slight area which slipped my attention on the RHS rear wheel arch. Nostalgia - This car comes with a whole host of nostalgic documentation including: -A copy of 1987 sports car magazine in which this car features as a prime example on the 25th anniversary of the spitfire - Photos from previous owners when the car was shown at TSSC meets - photos I have taken of work carried out - Valuation certs from TSSC valuing the car at £5500 in 1999 - A letter from the International Spitfire register proving that this car was one of the last 200 to be sold in the UK, and it was about 1200 from last off the production line. - original owners manual and sales booklet both in excellent condition. - thousands of pounds worth of receipts from previous owners How does the car drive? The car has absolutely no problems starting and the choke works perfectly, warms up to working temp perfectly and drives lovely. All gears engage lovely however I have noticed that when going from 3rd to 2nd a pause is necessary as sometimes it can be sticky engaging 2nd, one of those things that you get used to and it in no way affects performance. The car is very nippy and really is a joy to drive. All heaters, fans, lights, controls and locks work well. The fuel gauge works however I suspect a perforated fuel sender ball because when you fill the tank up it registers full on the gauge but after a day or two it falls to empty when there is still fuel in the tank. This car is being sold along with an assortment of spare parts and accessories including an old radiator, old hard top (in need of restoration) , tonneau cover in excellent condition (black) , hood cover in excellent condition (tan). Included is an original jack, wheel brace, spare wheel (old type original spare wheel) and cover. It is with much regret that I am selling this car however space forces the sale as I would not want it to be sat outside to deteriorate. This car has been garaged by me since purchase, I am informed many previous owners have also garaged it which would account for its superb condition. I have many many more photos of this car which are available on request, email me and I will happily send you them or take photos of anything in particular you wish to see. Viewings arranged upon request, you wont be disappointed! This car has 10 months MOT and 10 months road tax. Dont miss the opportunity to own, drive, and enjoy this superb Spitfire! One of the very best you will see!
