Presented in Torino in 1971, the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB was the first mid-engine Ferrari. Unlike the Daytona, who had kept the front-mounted V12 to compete with the Miura, the 365 GT4 BB finally adopted the same layout as its direct competitor, starting a 25-year series of mid-engined GTs for Ferrari.

Taking cues from Pininfarina¢s 1968 P6 concept, the 365 BB retained is overall shape with pop-up headlights and a very vertical rear end. It also marked a change in Ferrari¢s habits, leaving behind the traditional 4 round taillights and adopting a set of 6.

The 365 BB was powered by a flat 12, 4.4l liter engine cranking out a healthy 340 bhp. It allowed the somewhat lightweight 365 BB to reach 300 km/h. In 1976, the car became the 512 BB as the engine now displaced 5 liters and developed 360 bhp. Performance remained nearly identical as the new 512 BB weight nearly 280 kg more. The design was mostly unchanged, with the exception of the rollback to the 4 round signature taillights. In 1982, the BB512 became fuel injected and lost 20 bhp. The BB 512 i was the last evolution of the car and remained in production until 1984, when it was replaced by the Testarossa.

The 365 GT4 BB is the rarest of all BB, or Berlinetta Boxer, with only 387 units sold; more than 2,300 BBs were sold from 1971 to 1984.

The Ferrari 365 GT4 BB we are offering for sale is a beautiful opportunity to purchase one of these rare cars. Delivered new in Greece, it is currently with its third owner. Originally silver over black leather, it was given as a wedding present to its first custodian. He had a red stripe painted on the car and enjoyed it for a few years.

The second owner was a Greek singer, who decided to have the car repainted in the typical Ferrari color : Rosso Corsa. At this time, he chose to keep the color scheme identical to the carburettor cars, so the lower half of the car was painted in satin black.

The current and third owner undertook extensive work to give this Ferrari 365 GT4 BB a second youth. The body was stripped to the bare metal, restored, and repainted entirely in red, as the later BBi models were. While the car was in the workshop, he also decided to replace the old upholstery and went for a full black leather interior.

More recently, the original engine was restored. This particular operation was conducted by the Ferrari main dealer for Greece and also included the replacement of the clutch and flywheel. Last but not least, the rear axle and braking system were overhauled completely less than a year ago.

This is a unique opportunity to purchase a very rare 365 GT4 BB with a crystal clear history and all necessary work already undertaken. The car is sold with its original, 6 outlets exhaust (currently fitted is a BB 512-like stainless steel unit), its tool set and original jack.
