The AC Frua is an incredibly rare British GT car that can be rightly defined as a 'true exotic'. With an Italian body, British chassis and American large block V8, it is a superb synthesis of the best characteristics of each nation. With only 81 cars built in total, of which only 29 were convertibles, the AC Frua is extremely rare with very few examples ever appearing on the market. Designed by Pietro Frua, who also designed for Ferrari and Maserati, it has distinctive, elegant and purposeful looks. Built on an extended AC Cobra 427 Mark lll chassis, it features fully independent racing based coil spring suspension and was very advanced for 1969 with rack and pinion steering, disc brakes all round, double wishbone suspension and telescopic dampers. In every sense a superb Grand Tourer, it was the subject of a very flattering feature in Classic Cars. This example benefits from only one owner from new in 1969. It is complete with a superb service history including original bills, MOTs, the handbook, brochure and a collection of photographs from over the years. In 1993/94 it was subject to a complete and fully documented rebuild at the AC factory, leaving it in quite extraordinary condition. The 7.0 litre V8 is matched to an automatic gearbox and delivers 345 bhp and 462 ft/lb of torque with smooth power delivery. Surprisingly, running and maintenance costs are far more sensible that one might think because the parts are shared with other cars and are plentiful and readily available.
