Lot number 200 Estimate £400 - £600 Description BSA Bantam Registration KRC 453 Year 1957 Colour Green Engine size 123 cc Chassis No. BD2S62928 Engine No. DDB7216 The original design of the BSA Bantam came from a German design, the DKW RT125 that was received as part of war reparations. This fact was kept pretty quiet until long after the demise of BSA and for many years the Bantam was thought by many to be a 'truly British' lightweight motorcycle. The BSA designers converted the design to meet British conventions and into Imperial measurements for manufacture in Birmingham. The first Bantams were available only in all-over Mist Green and sold for £60 plus tax. Over the years they gained improved suspension and electrics and the engine size increased from 125 to 175cc. First registered in May 1957, this particular Bantam has been in the current ownership since 1987. It comes with virtually every old tax disc and MOT from 1986 to 2007 showing regular light use, the mileage rising in this time from 787 to the current 8,696 recorded miles. Currently on SORN with an engine fault, it comes with its original buff log book, old V5 and modern V5C and is still on its original, transferable registration number, KRC 453.
