Lot number 92 Estimate £3,500 - £4,500 Description Rover 2600 SD1 Registration CWK 779T Year 1978 Colour Yellow Engine size 2,567 cc Chassis No. RRWMU7AA069149 Engine No. 12C25367A Launched in 1976 and remaining in production for 10 years, the Rover SD1 was the successor to the P6 range and featured much more modern styling by David Bache who envisioned it as a cut price Ferrari Daytona. Engineering was by Spen King of Range Rover fame and it came with five different engine options ranging from a four-cylinder 2-litre unit to a 3.5-litre V8 with either manual or automatic transmission. The car was very warmly received by press and public alike, winning the European Car of The Year Award in 1977 and becoming a big favourite with the police. Dating from 1978, this six-cylinder 2600 model has covered only 12,800 miles from new and is said to be in excellent and totally original condition throughout. Fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, power steering and factory option alloy wheels, it is said to drive beautifully and recently had a full engine rebuild at a cost of £2,600 which is still under warranty. The vendor states that the car has never been welded or resprayed in any significant way and that all the panels are rust-free and original, marred only by a few small stone chips. The Coriander cloth interior is said to be in “superb condition throughout” as is all the brightwork. The engine compartment is also described as “excellent” with all the correct factory stickers still in place. The car is taxed until August and MOTd until November and comes with a good amount of history to verify the low mileage and still has its original spare wheel with jack and tools.
