Lot number 66 Estimate £22,000 - £25,000 Description Ferrari 308 GTSi QV Registration BCP 600 Year 1984 Colour Red Engine size 2,926 cc Chassis No. 48069 Engine No. 48069 Every schoolboy’s idea of what a proper Ferrari should look like, the sensational 308 GTB/GTS was launched in 1975 to replace the much more feminine looking Dino 246. Famously driven by Tom Selleck in the Eighties TV series Magnum PI, the 308 was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti who had also penned the equally dramatic Daytona and Berlinetta Boxer. An intoxicating mix of sweeping curves and aggressive lines, it oozed macho cool from every angle and looked like it was doing 100mph even when standing still. Initially bodied in fibreglass, from 1977 onwards it had a conventional steel body, both sharing the same tube-frame platform with 4-wheel double wishbone independent suspension. The mid-mounted 3-litre V8 engine initially had four Weber carbs and produced 255bhp, but Bosch fuel-injection was fitted from 1980 onwards which dropped power to 214bhp but greatly reduced emissions. Two years later, the 4-valve per cylinder Quattrovalvole (QV) model pushed output back up to 245bhp restoring the performance – 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds and a 159mph top speed. Some 12,000 examples were sold before it was replaced by the 328 in 1985. First registered in January 1984, this particular 308 GTSi QV targa-topped car spent the first 10 years of its life in Jersey before being brought to the UK in July 1994. It has covered only 30,800 miles to date and comes with an extensive service history to show regular careful maintenance and 11 old MOT certificates back to 1994. Among the many invoices on file are bills for a major engine rebuild including 8 new pistons at Graypaul Ferrari specialists in 1993 at 19,122 miles. The current registered keeper acquired the car from George Wise Motors in July 2007 when it had covered 28,000 miles. As part of the deal the car was fully serviced, the cambelt was changed and four new Michelin TRX tyres fitted, although this is not recorded in the history file. Said to be in very good condition throughout and to drive beautifully with excellent synchro on all gears, it also has the desirable options of air conditioning and central locking. It comes with the aforementioned service history, all its original handbooks, original tool-kit, two sets of keys and a car cover. Just issued with a fresh MOT valid until March 2011, this is a lovely low mileage example of one of the best-loved Ferraris of all time. The icing on the cake is a nice personalised registration number, BCP 600, which has been valued at £3,000. Wednesday, 24 March at 12 noon Auctioneer of classic cars and motorcycles |
