This is a 1998 E39 Alpina B10 V8, finished in Oxford Green metallic with a Sand soft leather interior. If you are not familiar with this model this was Alpina's answer to the upcoming E39 M5. This was not designed to be a direct competitor, as its was more designed for a super fast luxury saloon rather than the more hard core M5. These cars left the factory as BMW's 4.4 V8. They were then taken to Alpina's factory. The engine was modified by increasing the displacement to 4619cc, new crankshaft, re profiled camshafts, lighter higher compression Mahle pistons and a reprogrammed engine management etc, along with the heads being hand ported as well. This along with suspension / wheel / exhaust / gearbox upgrades resulted in a car with 340 bhp and ridicules amounts of torque. Obviously being an Alpina the BMW speed restrictor was removed, so this car will do 172mph if the mood takes you with a 0-60 time of 5.9. But the main achievement in my mind is that they made all these improvements whilst still leaving a perfectly usable day to day car, yet it was stunningly fast when needed. Other than a slightly nosier exhaust, when driving this car normally is hard to notice any difference, but once you put your foot down everything comes together and makes sense. The performance is staggering, the bespoke Alpina exhaust suddenly makes all the right noises, with a few pops and banks on the over run, the instant performance from the large V8 is very addictive, the Switch-Tronic gearbox with paddle buttons on the steering wheel to change gear works very well, I think Alpina got the overall package on this model just right ! Its reassuring that this Alpina should not want any more servicing than a standard BMW, in fact BMW were quite happy to warrant these car the same as there standard models. This example comes with full service history from new. Its either been looked after by BMW main dealers or well known specialist Munich Legends, so that car has always been looked after properly. If you look into reviews of this model there are a few areas that are advised to be done, this car has had all these done and its fully documented, for example this has has the later style head gaskets fitted as some evidence shows that the original paper ones were a weak point, the new style water pump has being fitted, gear box oil changes done etc. The brakes has recently been replaced all round as well as fitting quality tyres all round in the last couple of thousand miles.. The spec on this car is superb. On the outside you have Alpina front and rear spoilers, and a unmarked set of Alpina alloys.On the inside the spec continues with PAS, ABS, Multi airbags, Switchable traction control, Electric double glazed windows, Electric / autofold / heated mirrors, Electric Glass sunroof, Soft piped leather electric and heated seats, fully electric comfort seats (these are the most comfortable seats you will ever sit in, normally only an option on the top of the range 7 series), Zenon Lights, Air conditioning, BMW computer, Electric steering wheel adjustment, Cruise control, Alpina multifunction steering wheel the extra buttons for gear changes, Side and electric rear blinds, Rain sensor wipers, Front and rear parking sensors, Anti glare rear view mirror, Remote central locking / alarm etc etc. This is number 388 of a total of 1630 world wide cars.
