Elva MK II Sports Racer, imported in 1957 by Burdette Martin, Elva dealer in Chicago and later ACCUS President. Mr. Martin entered the car in the 1957 “Road America 500” with legendary co-driver Chuck Dietrich. He then sold the Elva to Frank Campbell, who raced it with Dietrich in the 1958 "RA 500". It was sold in 1980 to Jon Lindsey of Toronto and Bob Grunau restored the car in 1990. A new alloy body was made exactly duplicating the original body (the original body also included in this sale) and is unpainted, polished aluminum. The Elva is highly competitive in its class with a Coventry Climax 1460cc FWB motor, Moldex billet crank and Carillo rods. Elva space-frame chassis and de Dion, drum brakes, new billet stub-axles, removable roll bar, Fuelsafe gas tank, oil cooler, aluminum radiator, and onboard fire system. The car raced at the 2008 "Elva 50th Anniversary at Sebring" event and in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Monterey Historics and 2010 “Sonoma Historic.” The Climax engine, head (Ivey Engines of Portland, Oregon) and transmission (Roland Johnson Consulting) were freshened in 2010 with all new bearings, seals, clutch disc, and valve inserts and springs. Fits drivers up to 6'3". Eligible for European drum-brake class, LeMans Classic, etc., and welcomed at all USA vintage events. Very reliable and a joy to race. The car may be inspected in a shop five miles from San Diego, California, airport, and it will appear at the “Elva 55th Reunion” in September at "Road America"in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, USA. |
