However despite this the Herald struggled to sell initially as buyers opted for less well-equipped but cheaper competition. The Herald's performance was also no better than the competition's, with 60mph coming in 31 seconds it was average at best. The cars seperate-panel construction further hampered sales as this made the car noisey. Although the construction of the Herald also meant it was easy to repair, this coupled with the excellent visibility and light steering made it a popular driving-school car.
