Here we have a lovely low owner example of BMWs flagship luxury saloon; the 750iL. This 1999 model comes in the traditional colour combination of Oxford Green with Sand Beige nappa leather interior. On 2nd February 1999 this 750iL was supplied brand new to B O C Group. The second owner bought the car on 1st July 2003 with 133,000 motorway miles and owned it for six and a half years, using it sparingly as his second vehicle. The E38 (1994-2001) BMW 7 series is the largest of the three saloon cars produced by BMW. There were various models available for the UK market, these included: 7.28i (2.8 litre 6 cylinder) 7.30i (3.0 litre V8) 7.35i (3.5 litre V8) 7.40i/iL(4.0 litre & 4.4 litre V8) 7.50i/iL (5.4 litre V12) In 1999, prices started at £37,550 for the entry model, up to £75,580 for the top of the range model. The difference in price between a 740i and a 750iL was nearly £25,000. This 750iL has masses of rear leg room, as it is the Long Wheel Base version. The LWB model is approximately six inches longer than the 750i SWB, the extra length is absorbed into the rear doors. SWB 7 series arent small by any means, so you can imagine how imposing the 750iL is both inside and out. Being the largest of the BMW saloons, the standard specification of the BMW 7 Series is fantastic, a lot of which would be cost optional on BMW 3 and 5 series models. The list is massive, so I will list the most useful: 6 disc boot mounted CD changer Airbags all round Automatic gearbox with Steptronic (semi-auto) Automatic Stability Control (ASC) Cruise control Dual-zone climate control Dual cup holders, front and rear Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) Electrically adjustable front seats (incl headrests) with memory for drivers seat Electrically adjustable exterior mirrors Electric sunroof Electric windows Headlight level adjustment Headlight washer system Onboard computer (MPG, temperature, miles left in tank etc) Park Distance Control (PDC) front and rear Premium hi-fi system with 10 loudspeakers Rain Sensor Remote central locking Service interval indicator Servotronic (speed-sensitive) power steering Soft-close boot Traction control The specification of this 750iL is phenomenal, it makes the £51,500 740i look basic! The spec listed below is fitted as standard to the 750iL only: COMFORT SEATS (FRONT). Larger than standard seats these are electrically adjustable and have lumbar support too. The headrests are different to those on standard seats and the upper half of the backrest can be independently adjusted. The drivers seat has three memory settings. DOUBLE GLAZING. Twice as thick as normal 7 series windows and with a 3mm air gap, this results in an ultra-quiet environment inside the car. All side windows and the rear window are double glazed. ELECTRICALLY ADJUSTABLE STEERING WHEEL. You can move the steering wheel up, down, backwards and forwards at the touch of a button. This can be linked to the driver memory settings. ELECTRONIC DAMPER CONTROL. This adjusts the dampers instantaneously to all kinds of different road, load and driving conditions. EXTENDED HIGH GLOSS BURR WALNUT. The interior trim is extended to areas such as the surrounds of the rear courtesy lights, rear of the front seats and the handle on the rear centre armrest. FULL LEATHER. The leather is extended to the dash, which is hand stitched. Normal 7 series have a plastic dash. HEATED SEATS. The front and rear seats are heated. Each of the four seats has a button to control the heat from low-high. INLAID BURR WALNUT TRIM. This interior trim makes a change to the plain wood found in a normal 7 series; it has a distinct inlaid pattern. MIRROR BASE & SIDE WINDOW FRAME IN HIGH-GLOSS BLACK FINISH. A normal 7 series will have a matt black finish in these areas. This shiny black finish looks fantastic. MIRROR PACKAGE. This package consists of electric folding exterior mirrors and automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors. The electrical adjustment of the mirror glass can be linked to the drivers memory settings. NAPPA LEATHER. The vast majority of 7 series have whats known as Montana leather. Nappa leather oozes quality. It looks and feels totally different to standard leather, it is also much more hard wearing. NAVIGATION SYSTEM. This system has full colour maps along with audible and visual instructions. The front monitor can also be used to view radio/CD tracks, telephone info, heating/ventilation functions, on-board computer etc. REAR FOOTRESTS. Upholstered in the same colour as the carpets, these provide even more comfort for your rear passengers. REAR ELECTRIC SEATS. The rear seats are individually power adjustable for backrest angle, as well as having multi-position lumbar support. The rear headrests go up and down electrically too. SELF LEVELLING REAR SUSPENSION. This automatic rear suspension allows the car to maintain a good handling and road holding despite any weight that may be in the car. SUN BLINDS. There are five sun blinds fitted to the rear. There are two manual blinds on each side window and one full width rear window blind which can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. TELEPHONE. This fixed phone can be used hands-free. Use the buttons on the steering wheel to make or accept a call. You can view your phone book on the colour monitor and even read text messages on the monitor too! TELEVISION. You can view terrestrial channels 1-5 on the full colour front screen. There is also the facility to view Teletext, which is useful for lottery numbers if nothing else! XENON HEADLIGHTS. These ultra bright lights make night time driving a pleasure. These are more than twice as bright as conventional halogen headlights. The above 19 items of standard 750iL spec are all cost optional extras on other 7 series models, but see if you can find a 728i, 730i, 735i or 740i with 100% of this kit fitted to the same car! I have a copy of the build sheet for this 750iL. The sheet confirms that the car was ordered with the cost optional second telephone handset. This second handset is conveniently located in the rear centre armrest. This is a rare optional extra, even by 750iL standards. The 326bhp 5.4 litre V12 engine is superb. The late 1990s Rolls Royce Silver Seraph shares the same engine as the 750iL, which says it all. This masterpiece won International Engine of the Year Award in 1999 (4.0 litre plus category) and it is easy to see why when you experience it. This 12 cylinder engine can take this two tonne BMW from 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds. The fuel economy is much better than that of BMWs previous 5.0 V12 on the older shape (E32, 1987-1994) 750iL. Driven carefully on a run, you can expect to achieve between 26 and 28mpg which is great for a V12 and only marginally different from the 735i and 740i V8 models. The 740i V8 is a popular 7 series, and a very quick car. However, the 5.4 V12 really is something else and most definitely worth the extra £25,000 in addition to a 740i when new! 154,000 miles has been covered from new, and the car still drives positively today, with smooth gear changes and effortless power. The service book only has a few stamps, however I have a print out from a BMW Main Dealer which shows the following BMW Main Dealer visits: 18th November 1999, 26565 miles, Cooper Thames Ditton 31st January 2000, 31863 miles, Barons Farnborough 22nd August 2000, 47700 miles, Barons Farnborough 4th September 2000, 48532 miles, Barons Farnborough 8th September 2000, 48819 miles, Barons Farnborough 20th September 2000, 49291 miles, Barons Farnborough 28th December 2000, 56975 miles, Barons Farnborough 17th January 2001, 58048 miles, Barons Farnborough 29th January 2001, 58574 miles, Barons Farnborough 27th March 2001, 61451 miles, Barons Farnborough 20th September 2001, 73215 miles, Barons Farnborough 7th December 2001, 79182 miles, Barons Farnborough 8th February 2002, 79887 miles, Barons Farnborough 11th March 2002, 85025 miles, Barons Farnborough 13th March 2002, 86,716 miles, Barons Hindhead 12th June 2002, 102309 miles, Barons Farnborough 28th June 2002, 103713 miles, Barons Farnborough 29th July 2002, 106957 miles, Barons Farnborough 9th September 2002, 112594 miles, Barons Farnborough 2nd October 2002, 113924 miles, Barons Farnborough 20th January 2003, 128192 miles, Sytner Sunningdale 23rd January 2003, 128582 miles, Sytner Sunningdale 8th August 2003, 133558 miles, Cooper Croydon 2nd December 2003, 136134 miles, Cooper Croydon 24th November 2006, 147615 miles, Cooper Croydon The print out from BMW doesnt state why the car was in at these dealerships, it simply states date, mileage and dealer. However, it shows the car has been Main Dealer cared for 25 times from brand new, until 7000 miles ago. The car has a long M.O.T (expires June 2011), but requires road tax. Being a pre-March 2001 registered vehicle, it falls into the lower road tax bracket. Tax for 12 months is just £205. The equivalent V12 model today costs £435 per year to tax. Worked carried out for the M.O.T included a replacement ABS module and two new front tyres. The rear tyres are nearly new. The following previous M.O.T certificates are present: January 2003 - January 2004 (128,316 miles) July 2003 - July 2004 (133,245 miles). This was when the car changed hands, hence the dealer put a fresh M.O.T on it July 2004 - July 2005 (139,549 miles) September 2005 - September 2006 (143,388 miles) September 2006 - September 2007 (146,771 miles) October 2007 - October 2008 (152,850 miles) The alternator has been re-built (March 2010), other receipts include: 3rd December 2003 (136,134 miles) Replacement water pump (£759.03) at Cooper Croydon 24th November 2006 (147,615 miles) BMW Inspection 1 Service (£627.21) at Cooper Croydon 22nd October 2007 - Suspension arms, rear tyres, headlamp adjustment (£536.22) All handbooks are included in their original BMW leather wallet. Ive owned several E38 BMW 750i and 750iL models, all of which have had their share of negatives, as will any used 7 Series of this age. For honesty and clarity, negative points with this one include: Plastic moulding around the driver and passenger seat bases have come away from the seat slightly. Crease in the drivers side rear door. One of the drivers seat electric seat buttons is missing. Ive bought a replacement from BMW but havent fitted yet. Kidney grilles are slightly loose (very common problem, has been the case with all my 750s!). The car was serviced 7000 miles ago (BMW Inspection 1), as per the above receipt. However, this was some time ago, so assume the car requires a service. I buy and sell the occasional prestige car, mainly high-end and unique examples. This 7 Series is registered in my name and I am the third keeper from new. This 750iL is available for a mere fraction of the original £76,000 price tag. The car is priced to sell, probably the best value 1999 750iL currently for sale in the United Kingdom. I have plenty more interior and exterior photos. If youre travelling a distance to view this 750iL and would like to see some more photos prior to viewing, please let me know and Ill email them. Thanks for taking the time to read this advert. Finally, please no timewasters or agencies. |
