Richard Hudson-Evans says, A 1950 XK120 Roadster rescued from barn abandonment in 1991 and treated to a body-off concours-standards restoration, which had included a 4000 hours mechanical rebuild, impressively fetched an over top estimate £82,500 during the latest DVCA fixture, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. The early steel-bodied car, reckoned to be the second oldest in existence, was an original right hand drive home market model and its sale marks a milestone result for Brian Chant’s auction house.
Another forecast beating performance under canvas at the Dorset firm’s regular Gartell Light Railway venue just outside Templecombe was a 1938 MG VA Drophead Coupe by Tickford, an older restoration, sold for £27,500. A clearly well maintained 1933 Austin 16 Westminster Saloon made £11,000, a bodily refurbished in 1991 Lancia Fulvia 1300S Zagato of 1970 vintage £7700 and a 1949 Riley RMC with RMB engine £7250.
Of the more modern stock, a two family owned since new in 1997 Porsche Boxster with marque and model-appropriate registration with 153,300 miles on the clock was landed for £7920. A 1988 Ford Capri 280 and a 1967 Triumph Vitesse Mk1 2-Litre Saloon, both cosmetically challenged trailer-borne projects for restoration, were taken on for £1925 and £154 respectively. Whilst a salvageable and pre-1965 motor sports event eligible 1098cc MG Midget raised £1650.
