Ward Brothers Reserve Collection Auction - Bonhams Auction House

Richard Hudson-Evans says, An 1896 Benz 5hp Victoria sold for a way over top estimate £221,500 to head £1.36m of cars consigned from the Ward Brothers Reserve Collection which went under the hammer at Henley-on-Thames, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. During a well attended Saturday afternoon in the Henley Regatta tent, an 1899 Panhard-Levassor Type M2F 6hp Wagonette for six really early risers on the London to Brighton Run fetched £122,500.
In what proved to be a near sell-out Bonhams auction of early vehicles that had become surplus to the requirements of brothers Toby and Daniel Ward, their 1904 White Steamer Model D 10hp Tonneau with rear-entrance made £117,000 and a 1926 Vauxhall 30-98 OE Velox Tourer £111,500.
A 1904 Wolseley 6hp 2-Seaters made a better than expected £78,500, a 1902 Delahaye 6hp Type O Vis-à-vis £76,100 and a 1901 De Dion Bouton 4½hp Model G Vis-à-vis £63,500. There was £60,900 available for a 1900 Decauville 5hp Twin Cylinder vis-à-vis Voiturette, £56,500 for an 1899 Hertel 3hp Runabout and £55,950 for a 1901 Stirling 5hp Dos-a-dos Light Dog Cart. Whilst a 1901 Pick 4hp 2-Seater Voiturettes, one of only two known survivors of the Stamford Lincolnshire marque, raised £52,100 and an 1899 Phebus 2¼hp Forecar £48,800.
Highlights among the brothers 25 collector tricycles and motorcycles, which raised an additional £538,181, included a 1951 Vincent Series C Black Shadow sold for £69,150. Their 1934 Brough Superior 680 made £51,000 and a 1936 SS80 from the same manufacturer £41,100.
