Automobiles de Collection Auction - Artcurial Auction House

Richard Hudson-Evans says, Matra 650 chassis number 01, the 1969 Beltoise/Pescarolo Paris 1000k winner, sold for 1,463,500 Euros (£1,283,772) to head the Artcurial results in Paris during the first weekend of Retromobile, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. Indeed, very few other historic racers changed hands in the ‘Amphitheatre Bleu’ at the Palais des Congress during a Sunday evening sale that lacked both the buzz and action of the previous night’s drive-through Bonhams bash only a few Peripherique junctions away at Porte Versailles within the Retromobile exhibition itself.
Among several big money items which failed to attract buyers at the French auction firm’s regular Conference Centre venue at Porte Maillot were the unique Pininfarina Speciale Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona, the sale of which was abandoned at 1,300,000 Euros, and a 2004 Enzo failed to get away at 620,000 Euros. Other non-sellers included a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Roadster with an insufficient 650,000 Euros displayed, a 1967 Lola T70 Mk3 unsold at 520,000 Euros and an ex-works team and Autodelta run 1972 Alfa 33 TT 3-Litre Sports-Racer at 500,000 Euros. The Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands 1953 Ferrari Inter also ran out of puff at 320,000 Euros, whilst a competition-spec 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 was a non-seller at 280,000 Euros and a 1958 250GT Ellena Coupe unsold at 170,000 Euros.
A 1964 Aston Martin DB4 Coupe did sell, though, and for 198,500 Euros (£174,123), and a 1948 Delahaye 135M Pennock-bodied Cabriolet sold for 160,000 Euros (£140,351), a 1936 AC 16/80 Competition Roadster for 151,200 Euros (£132,632), a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring for 130,300 Euros (£114,298) and a 1926 Excelsior ADEX Type C 4/5-Seater Tourer for 110,200 Euros (£96,667). A 1950 Jaguar MkV Drophead made 48,770 (£42,737), a 1935 MG PB 23,200 Euros (£20,351) and a 1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I 22,040 Euros (£19,333). Disappointingly for the auctioneers and their vendors, however, 32 cars did not sell.
