Richard Hudson-Evans says, A new record price of £133,100 including premium was paid at the Herefordshire auctioneers for a largely unmolested since 1956 Jaguar XK140, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. The Drophead Coupe, which had resided in the same domestic garage for 50 years and had done only 30,500 miles from new, achieved more than double the lower estimate.
A very large crowd attended this mid-week sale to see a 1934 Bentley 3½-Litre Thrupp & Maberly Sports Saloon, another very original and low mileage car, make £37,400, whilst a very sharp 1964 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur reportedly changed hands for £66,000 in an aftersale.
A clutch of MGs successfully crossed the block here with a 1931 Montlehery Midget C Type Replica attracting £33,000, a 1934 J2 Midget £24,200, a 1954 MG TF 1250 £21,175 and a 1949 YT 4-Seater Tourer £17,600. A circa 25,00 miles from new in 1990 Aston Martin Virage manual, albeit with some bubbling below the screen, was landed for £16,500 and the 1965 Reliant Scimitar SE4a GT sold for £6600 had been restored and was super-mint.
