Richard Hudson-Evans says, Sharing their pitch with the Grand Concours d’Elegance in the Parc de Saint-Cloud beside the Seine in Paris, Artcurial sold few of their top cars, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. With a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport, a 1954 Pegaso Z103 B Berlinetta, the ex-Pescarolo and Beltoise 1974 BRM P201 F1, a 1964 Ferrari 250GT/L and a 1990 Ferrari F40 all failing to attract buyers, it was left to a restored and mint 1936 Bugatti Type 57 Galibier to head the results with a mid-estimate 264,684 Euros paid.
Another Bugatti to change hands here was a 1927 Type 40 - uniquely bodied with MGTF coachwork in the mid-1950s and supercharged in the 1960s - fetched 253,488 Euros. Whilst a very glossy 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona sold for an above forecast 272,600 Euros.
The Ballestrieri/Bernacchini 1972 San Remo winning ex-works Lancia Fulvia 1600HF made a mid-estimate 121,375 Euros, underlining the continued demand for historic rally cars which can be used on retro-events. A well restored and on-the-button 1954 Aurelia B20 GT 4th Series achieved an above forecast 95,309 Euros and a freshly prepared 1973 Alpine-Renault A110 1600S 64,333 Euros.
The oldest item to cross the block successfully was a 1913 Brasier 6hp sold for 78,630 Euros. The stately Marcel Guilloux coachwork and original interior were extraordinarily well preserved having been walled up at the outbreak of WW1 and remaining off the radar for the next 70 years. Another time warp item, a dusty, dormant and unmolested 1929 Delage DMN Faux Cabrio project was bravely taken on for 41,698 Euros.
