Festival Auction Auction - Coys Auction House

Richard Hudson-Evans says, A 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, which had been re-panelled to Mk2 specification and was declared sold for £177,500, headed the Coys Brands Hatch results, writes Richard Hudson-Evans. Whilst from the same collector’s stable, a 1938 Bentley 4 ¼ Litre Tourer for four with cutaway doors reportedly made £117,000 and a 1959 Jaguar MkII 3.8 manual with overdrive £23,288.
Other big number prices were the £100,500 generated by a stunning 1974 Ferrari 246GTS with chairs and flares option and the £44,950 paid for a mint and left-hand drive 1954 Jaguar XK140SE Roadster.
Keenly contested in their marquee beside the start and finish straight were a brace of restoration projects with a 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 MkI, supplied to the first owner by Leslie Hawthorn’s TT Garage at Farnham and subsequently fitted with a 3-Litre engine by the factory, raising £34,500, and a barn-stored for 25 years Ferrari 246 Dino GT of 1971 taken on for £37,250. By contrast, a repainted 1978 308GTB in nice order with MOT changed hands here for £19,550.
Open sportscars pulled well, with an Eagle upgraded 1966 Jaguar E Type Series 1 4.2 Roadster sold for £56,500, a 1974 Series 3 V12 Roadster £42,970 and a £1982 Proteus C Type Jag replica with grp panels £24,725. £10,925 was available for a clearly very well restored 1962 MGB Roadster on wires. Whilst £20,125 and £19,550 were strong prices for the very last Rover Mini Cooper Works S from 2000 and a much rallied 1965 Austin Mini Cooper 1275S.
