Collectors Motor Cars Auction - Bonhams Auction House

Richard Hudson-Evans says, Despite the eleventh hour withdrawal of a 1911 Silver Ghost and a 1899 Benz by their vendor, 85 per cent of the Bonhams Hendon sale catalogue did change hands for just over £1.5m, reports Richard Hudson-Evans, in what was once again a very well supported spring fixture at the RAF Museum where the lots are parked up under the wings of the old warbirds.
The market message from here was that Veterans continue to perform strongly with a 1905 Sunbeam 12/14hp 4-Cylinder 5-Seater and a 1904 Societe Manufacturiere d’Armes 24/30hp Open Drive Landaulette both achieving their top estimates, costing £243,500 and £177,500 respectively. Having seen their 1900 Clement-Panhard 4½hp Voiture Legere sell for £78,500, Sir John and Lady Val Guinness immediately replaced the 2-Seater with a £76,300 1904 Swift 7hp with London to Brighton Run accommodation for four!
£190,700 was invested in a 1923 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Salamanca, whilst the Ferrari 330GT first exhibited at the 1966 Earls Court Motor Show made £41,100.
