MATHEWSONS AUCTION

Mathewsons Auction

Mathewsons Auction

Given I have only been working in the Classic Car market for around 18 months I was excited to see how Mathewsons worked and how they held their auctions.   I had only ever previously dealt with them over the phone so I was naturally a little apprehensive.

I arrived the night before to visit Derek, David and Paul for the first time face to face and they were extremely hospitable and any fears of awkwardness soon disappeared.  However, rather than just sit and talk and distract them all from the job in hand I offered a helping hand, albeit, maybe more of a hindrance as I spent more time looking around taking it all in.

The following morning after a great meal at their pub the night before and a fantastic breakfast at the Warrington Guest House I walked around the corner to offer them a further helping hand.  A packed crowd started to arrive early doors for some bargains with the Automobilia lot starting around 11am with some great deals being had.   The most exciting part of the day soon followed around 13.30 when the car lots started.   It appeared to get off to a slow start but Derek soon got things moving and some great deals were had.   With it being slower on the day than expected David had his hands full behind the scenes converting provisional bids into sales which continued for a few weeks.  This work clearly paid off with 75% of provisional bids being converted to sales.

All in all it was a great experience and I can’t thank the Mathewson family and a friend’s enough for their hospitality and the relaxed approach to the Auction really does bring the community together.
